Both Sunday champions came from a set down, while Rafael Jodar's run to the Shanghai final lifted him into the race for Turin.

Sunday in China belonged to the comeback.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina rallied to beat fellow Spaniard Rafael Jodar 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the Rolex Shanghai Masters final, the ATP Tour reported. Jodar, the 12th seed, ran away with the first set, but Davidovich Fokina won the second in a tiebreak and broke in the fifth game of the third to close out a 2-hour, 28-minute match.

It was his first Masters 1000 title and the third tour-level crown of his career. He had lost his first five finals but has now won three straight, after earlier titles this year in Mallorca and Chengdu.

Chwalinska's breakthrough

At the Wuhan Open, Poland's Maja Chwalinska, seeded 16th, came back to beat Britain's Sonay Kartal 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 for her first WTA title, according to the WTA. Chwalinska won the last four games and saved three break points while serving for the match. Kartal, ranked 170th, had knocked out Belinda Bencic, Jasmine Paolini, Elina Svitolina and Jelena Ostapenko on her way to the final.

Race to the finals

Seven of eight places at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells are filled, with Svitolina the latest qualifier, the WTA said. On the men's side, the ATP noted that Jannik Sinner is ending his season with an injury, making ninth place effectively the last ticket to Turin. Jodar's run moved him into that spot.
