The Tampa Bay Rays are going to the World Series. They beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field, winning the series 4-2.

It is the Rays' third pennant in 29 seasons, after 2008 and 2020, The Associated Press reported. They lost both of those World Series.

How Game 6 went

Tampa Bay never trailed, Newsweek reported. Richie Palacios hit a two-run double in the second inning and Jonny DeLuca added a sacrifice fly in the third. After Cleveland closed within two, Junior Caminero hit a two-run homer in the seventh, his first career postseason home run, and Yandy Díaz added a two-run shot in the eighth, according to the AP.

Starter Freddy Peralta allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings and was named ALCS MVP, the AP reported. The Rays had trailed the series 1-0 and 2-1 before winning the last three games.

A first-time champion

The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series, according to MLB. It is the first World Series since 1980 in which neither team has won a title, the AP reported.
