Trump rallies in Corinth for Hyde-Smith as Democrats pour money into Mississippi

Forecasters still rate the seat safely Republican, but the president's visit and a Democratic ad buy signal both sides are watching Scott Colom's challenge.

President Trump campaigned in Corinth on Monday night for Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, adding a stop in a state he carried by about 23 points in 2024 as the midterms enter their final week.

Trump predicted Hyde-Smith is "going to win big" and called her Democratic opponent, Scott Colom, a "disaster," Fox News reported. The rally was held at the Crossroads Arena in the state's northeast corner, according to Mississippi Today.

The race

  • Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) is seeking her second full term. Trump endorsed her in March 2025.
  • Scott Colom (D) is a district attorney in north Mississippi. He has challenged Trump to debate him and says Hyde-Smith is scared of the race, WLOX reported.
  • Ty Pinkins, a lawyer, is on the ballot as an independent.

Most national forecasters rate the race solid or likely Republican, and a Democrat has not won a Senate race in Mississippi since 1982, Mississippi Today reported. Sen. Roger Wicker said he believes Hyde-Smith still leads.

Outside help

Democrats have sent reinforcements. Senate Majority PAC announced a $1.2 million ad buy for Colom, former Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned with him in Columbus last week, and former President Barack Obama has endorsed him, according to Mississippi Today. Former Gov. Phil Bryant was reported to be planning a bus tour with Hyde-Smith.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
