The Golden State Valkyries are three wins from a championship in just their second season.

Golden State beat the Atlanta Dream 68-64 in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday at Chase Center. Gabby Williams scored 26 points and made four free throws in the last 78 seconds to put the game away, Al Jazeera reported.

Atlanta went cold late, making only 2 of 19 shots in the fourth quarter. Allisha Gray returned from a hand injury to score 19, and Angel Reese had 14 points and 12 rebounds, all of her points coming before halftime.

A first title either way

Whoever wins, it will be a first championship. Atlanta has lost all three of its previous Finals trips. Golden State began play in 2025, and the league says no expansion team has reached the Finals faster. The Valkyries swept Las Vegas in the semifinals, finishing the series with an 87-77 overtime win on Oct. 9, NBC Bay Area reported. Atlanta swept New York.
